M.J. Beck Discusses Sustainable Reconstruction in Iraq |

M.J. Beck joined McKissack &
McKissack, CRDF, Solar One, NYU-Poly, and the New York Professional Chapter of
Engineers Without Borders in a panel discussion on the
success and challenges of the U.S. Department of State’s Iraq Engineer
Enhancement Program (IEEP) at NYC-ACRE. The panel explored the challenges of rebuilding
Iraq’s scientific and technological infrastructure, and the role of “science diplomacy” in infrastructural re-development.
The IEEP is a U.S State Department
program managed by the Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) and designed
to connect Iraqi engineers and professionals with the knowledge they need to
rebuild their country.

Jonathan
McClelland, Director at M.J. Beck, moderated a presentation
on the United Kingdom's new feed-in tariff policy. The UK is the first country in the world to
make carbon reduction targets legally binding. With the introduction of feed-in
tariffs for small-scale renewable electricity generation, the UK has
established a financial framework to drive investment and stimulate clean
energy adoption on a much broader scale. The discussion analyzed policy in
reference to the experience of other countries, and focused on the tariff’s implications
for investment and growth in the UK’s clean energy sector.

In conjunction with the New York County Lawyers Association's
Environmental Law Section, M.J. Beck Consulting will host the March 16
Panel; "Understanding Renewable Portfolio Standards: Impacts on the
Energy Industry."
Energy experts will explore current and pending renewable energy
standards across the country, including an examination of the proposed
federal RPS and how its passage would affect state programs as well as
distributed generation and the role of non-binding city targets play in
meeting RPS goals, with an emphasis on NYC.
The panel includes Michael Beck and Jonathon McClelland from MJ Beck
Consulting, Michael Delaney from NYCDEC and Grace Kurdian from McCarter
& English.

M.J. Beck was
pleased to welcome New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to its New York office. Mayor
Bloomberg gave a news conference in support of M.J. Beck and the twenty-six
other companies who share the space at 160 Varick St. He encouraged
entrepreneurship and announced the funding of additional business incubators in
New York City to promote the growth of innovative new start-up companies. M.J.
Beck is proud to be a part of this entrepreneurial spirit and the New York
business community.
